  • 1.  BATCH IMPORT OF XPRESSION MOVIE FILES

Hello all...  I seem to be encountering more and more where shows have already built out L3rds (as movie files) and wants XPression to play back these "composited" L3rds movie files.  Just this past weekend I worked on an awards show where this was the case; and as much as I tried to convince them that I could replicate the L3rds in XPression and it would be easier to fix mistakes; they insisted that they create the L3rds in AE and send to me.  THERE WERE ABOUT 300 L3RDS and THERE WERE SPELLING MISTAKES!!!

Suffice to say the conversion process in Video Encoder (Apple ProRes 4444 to XPression AVI) became quite tedious.

Is there a workflow that would make this process easier?  Does XPression support "Watch Folder" where it will automatically convert files dropped into that folder into XPression AVI?  I could use some advice on a good workflow for this scenario.

    As always thank you.

P.S. about 99.5% of XPression machines I work on do not have any Adobe programs on them and the graphic artist always works on Mac based computers.

Hi Steve.  The simple answer is that this is what Ross inCode Server does for you.  So its an add on piece of software typically run on a separate server.  Most anyone that has a tessera deployment has this setup.  But it is not a standard item, so yes, you have to go one at a time and recode the videos.

XPression INcoder & the XPression Clip Server Option are both used to support these types of workflows.
INcoder for autonomous watch folder transcoding and Clip Server option for an easily managed database of clips with support for overwriting existing files.
Of those two addons, INcoder would be most useful to you, and Clip Server would be a nice to have but not necessary.
You can run INcoder on the same server as XPression Studio, as long as you are aware that if INcoder starts transcoding a file (autonomously) that the output of XPression could stutter (the same way it would stutter if you transcoded using the Video Coder while outputting something from XPression).
